Laurel Group was initially established as Mount Pleasant Publishing Corporation in 1963 with the purchase of The Mount Pleasant Journal, first published in 1873. In addition to publishing the local  newspaper, the company operated a newspaper production and commercial printing plant. The printing facility served businesses in the greater Mount Pleasant area and produced and printed community newspapers for nearby community publishers. The Mount Pleasant Journal is our flagship newspaper.
